The Muskets hosted three time former league champions, the Plymouth Mariners, this weekend in a close encounter at Bishop Foxs. After winning their last seven games the Muskets went into the tie full of optimism of potentially sealing their place in the championship game. Taunton Muskets notched another win, but this time they didn’t have to swing a bat, as the Yeovil Whirlwinds had to forfeit the weekend tie. While it was disappointing not to get a proper game, the Muskets did get a chance to play a friendly against the a mixed Yeovil team. In a high scoring encounter there were plenty of hits and some nice plays from both sides, with everyone involved getting a chance to get some game time in different positions. The Muskets look forward to hosting the Plymouth Mariners next Sunday at Bishop Fox’s.

The second half of the South West Baseball League season has started and the Muskets began their Double A campaign against the Bristol Bats, the only undefeated team from the first half of the year. The hosts rose to the challenge of the new division and ran out 17-5 winners after 7 innings.

The Taunton Muskets took to the road again on Sunday to take on the 2018 South West Baseball League champions Exeter Spitfires in Devon. Having suffered defeat in their first two games, both very tight affairs, the Muskets were looking to change their fortunes against an Exeter side also struggling at the start of the 2019 season. It would prove to be another close game for the Muskets, with their batting still cold in the early summer months, yet they managed to prevail off the back of more impressive pitching and a brilliant squad effort to win 14-5.

Following on from their opening day defeat to the Yeovil Whirlwinds the Muskets traveled to Cornwall to take on the relocated Cornish Claycutters in Truro. While the bank holiday sun shone it was not a good day at ball park for the Muskets, with a combination of poor hitting and fielding errors leading to a narrow 4-3 walk off defeat to the Cornish outfit.

It is that time of year again, after yet another long, cold winter the British Baseball season is getting underway and thousands hope that Sundays stay dry for the next 5 months. For the Muskets the new season brings new beginnings, as they move to a new field in Victoria Park, in the heart of Taunton. After rain forced the Muskets first scheduled game against the Cornish Claycutters to be cancelled, they began the new South West Baseball League season hosting one of the many newcomers to the league, the Yeovil Whirlwinds.

The Muskets traveled to Plymouth on September 2nd to take on the Exeter Spitfires in the SWBL 2018 Championship game. It was a great day for baseball in the South West as the Plymouth Mariners hosted proceedings to celebrate their tenth anniversary. In what was a very close game, dominated by superb pitching from both teams, ended in an Exeter victory, giving them their first championship win in club history. Unfortunately for the Muskets it was not their day, struggling to find a good rhythm at the plate and a few costly errors in the field mean the team will need to regroup to challenge again for next season. Keep your eyes peeled for news on winter training and updates on our new field for 2019.

After a couple of weeks suffering at the mercy of the weather the Muskets finally managed to take the field in sunny Devon to face the Spitfires. Exeter have been in fine form this season, going into this clash boasting an unbeaten record and one win away from securing their place in the championship game as the Southern Division winners. The Muskets, unbeknownst at the time, were also only one win away from securing the Northern Division title after a couple of rain out games.

The Muskets headed south to take on the St Austell Claycutters on a beautiful Sunday in picture perfect Fowey. With an eye on standings the Muskets knew that a win would take them back to the top of the Northern Conference and the team delivered with the bat, notching an impressive 59-2 victory over 5 innings.
